Sunday Sermon - 10/13/2019 - 1 Corinthians 9:19-27

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, so ubiquitous are your works, so constant is your provision, that to contemplate them is to attempt to hold the whole of creation in the mind at once, and though we try mightily, our best efforts amount to tiny thoughts that flit from one component of your work to another. Who can ponder all of your work in the knitting together of a baby in the womb; in the strengthening of the body and mind in childhood; in the purification of motives over the course of a lifetime? Who can know all you do moment by moment to allow our bodies to breath in air; to allow the fields to grow; to allow the planets to turn? And who can fathom your work in the hearts of sinners that causes them to relinquish trust in themselves and instead trust Jesus Christ? Truly, “Great are the deeds of the Lord...His work is full of majesty and splendor, *and his righteousness endures forever.” May your marvelous works and everlasting faithfulness be remembered today; please accept the praises of your church.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

Lord Jesus, when we are weary with responsibilities and plans and fears, words come slowly to mind, our hearts feel distant from you, and it is difficult even to pray, “Please, help me.” And, oh!how often we find ourselves in such an overwhelming time. So, Lord Jesus, thank you for pleading for us, for working for our good, even when we are despondent and weary and indifferent to you.Thank you for loving us.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Amen.
