Sunday Sermon - 11/10/2019 - 1 Corinthians 11:1; Matthew 17:24-27
Opening Prayer:
O Holy God, just as you called forth light from darkness as you created in the beginning, so you have called forth life from death in the lives of your people. What was broken, confused, and ever-discontent is now whole, sure, and full of peace because of the life you impart to us though your Holy Spirit. May your people grow in maturity, learning to desire that which is light and life instead of returning to the darkness that marked our lives prior to your awakening touch. And may the holiness and contentment of your people adorn the truth of your gospel, that our nearest neighbors would soon submit to the blessed yoke of Christ.
We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Closing Prayer:
O Holy God, we confess that we are discontent and angry to the degree that we do not trust you to provide for and bless us; forgive us for trusting ourselves instead of trusting you. Strike from us the many murmurings and complaints that silently soil our prayers and relationships, that your people would honor you in a serene thankfulness undisturbed by loss and pain. And so may you be honored in the private prayers and public life of your Church.
We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
